Canal Hopping
With the jungle, the swamp, behind me I had north out of the Seminole reservation along a paved highway. Apparently construction on the canal which forms the backbone of the Florida Trail has divergent walkers along this route then I encounter the long narrow, arrow straight L3 canal. The canal, one of many intersecting man-made drainage loops, irrigates the otherwise acute the arid landscape. Surprisingly, sugarcane is harvested here by the American sugar company. Parking is again convenient at the entrance to the canal and I am able to walk northwest nearly 7 miles and then returned in the same direction.
