Moose Attack
“Bam, Bam, Bam,Bam” obliterated the 6 AM silence. The giant moose ran toward me while being chased by a car.”HEEE”, like an angry horse, the beast yelled. Then, “bam, bam” as his giant hoofs hit the road again. His huge antlers like a pack of crooked spears barreled toward me. Stunned, I stopped walking not knowing what to do. Running sideways then the strange animal disappeared into the dark woods.
North Pole, Alaska – “In the lower 48 they have snow days. Up here we need heat days” the local man told me as temperatures climbed to the mid 70’s during this central Alaska heat wave.
Today was a difficult day. No hills but lots of construction south of Fairbanks. I had to search for parallel roads to my main route, Highway # 2. Campers and RV’s sped by all day. This s tourist season and I don’t like it. But I am still glad to be here and know in another 50 miles the traffic will thin out.
I went to church in the town of North Pole. Yes, the name of the church was Saint Nicholas. During the service the priest asked visitors to speak about themselves. Reluctantly, I told about my walking journey. The congregation applauded
