Timber!
Despite the bears I know realize I appreciated the quiet, the solitude of the Cassiar. The traffic on the Yellowhead is more intense, more frequent and louder. I am headed east toward the larger town of Prince George. The road surface, and thus the walking, is smoother. I can make better time yet I am weary and cautious of the traffic.
Timber is king here. Trailer trucks loaded with fresh cut pine logs speed by throughout the day. Strangely, and quickly, it seems, the raw logs are processed into sheets of timber board, wrapped in protective paper and whizzed off in still other big trucks. Locals tell me the processed wood is headed for ship to the west in Prince Rupert – destination China.
