Two Men From Montana
Two men sitting in opposite booths shout out their life stories. “I went to World War II when I was only 17. Was married to my first wife for 45 years till she died. I knowed this other woman so we got married. It lasted eleven years until she died just like the other.
The second gent, also not dressed like a cowboy, adds “My first had an aneurism. She died young. I made the mistake of marrying a younger woman. It didn’t last long but we had three kids together. My third wife she died too. So I out lived two out of three”
The veteran stands up, examines his food bill saying, “I guess now I gotta come up with four dollars fifty cents”. He walks decisively to a late model SUV replete with a handicapped parking sticker heading in to the twilight. The second man without comment leaves the restaurant, gets into a crisply clean red pickup truck and drives toward the city they call Butte.
