Lost in History
You have heard it before. I wish I had been riding along side one of those wagon trains heading west that had passed over this exact stretch of road in the 1870’s. By that year my Civil War duty would have gratefully been finished. [After long reflection I’ve decided I would have fought for the North – principally because I have great admiration for ole Abe Lincoln]
There I would sit – six gun holstered, a Winchester strung across my lap for quick access in case a grizzly or bad human type should attack. I’d be here for the adventure, no homesteading for me. I’d only eat fish and real beef – none of that hunting animals for me, except of course if I was starving. Yep, I would be close to the wagons but no really part of that large group. If you know what I mean? I would have mastered a little Indian dialect too. That would give me the opportunity to sneak away now and then from all of these would be settlers and have some fun smoking a piece pipe with my red brothers. Bet you didn’t know that plains Indians also brewed wine!
