Live gators
Gators literally jumped into the swamp canals as if they were really afraid of me just feet from the old dirt roads forming the trail. I could hear their splashing and on a number of occasions was fortunate to see their tails just before it sunk into the murky water. Poisonous snakes rustled in the trawled brass lining the path as I hustled ever forward. I carried copious bottles of water as I was not yet desperate enough to filter the ever present Swamp. When I reached the halfway point of this 10 mile segment I turned around, went back to my support vehicles in the I- 75 parking lot and drove around to the seminal Indian reservation where the next day I planned to head south along the trail and hook up precisely where I left off today.
