New Immigrants

New Hazelton juts out on to the Yllowhead Highway with no advance warning. It is the only spot to find a hotel after Kitwanga. I am pleased with a little sleep spot right along the road. “I go to the high school here”, the teenager tells me. “My aunt owns the hotel. I just came from China to help here out. I want to become a citizen, I like this country”

It is then that I notice a few other small motels are managed by other immigrants from mainland China. Bravo Canada!
