I reach the seven mile camp and am dismayed that there is no sign of water. I have a new filtration unit and am uncomfortable that I cannot use it. I am only carrying one quart of water which I know is insufficient to last the whole night. I plug on worried until I reach the ten mile camp site. I search feverously but there is not water. The trails’ guide book had said water was in the Cyprus grove just off of the trail. I see what I think is the mark identifying the site of water but the area is dry. I have trekked 10 mikes and reluctantly decide to return to the start point of my adventure. An hour later it rains hard but I have alredy committed myself to return to the ranger station. Soaked I move ever forward. As darkness falls I brew hot coffee watching the traffic buzz by on Highway 41.
