North To Alaska
After months of meticulous planning and performing the requisite training I finally am off to Alaska. All of the time I was walking along the Florida Trail I kept contemplating my desperate need to finish Stage 1 of My Dream Walk from Point Barrow, Alaska to Deadhorse ,Alaska. This segment of the walk is particularly difficult because there are no roads to traipse along. In 2009 I tackled the very difficult walk out of Barrow in March when the temperatures with the wind chill were at -60 below zero. My guides support vehicle finally broke down on the stubborn ice but I was able to complete 42.6 well earned miles.
This trip my plan is to take a small plane accompanied by an experienced guide and land along a lake which adjoins the icy Arctic Ocean. Then with luck, we will cross the tundra to an Eskimo village. So, off I go!
