Yellowstone’s Finest

The famous Old Faithful Inn is staffed generally with seasonal help. Many of the workers are students. Ruby, while buttering a bagel, said her Dad had lent her the money for air fare to get here from her home in Taiwan. “Now I need to find a job when I return so I can pay him back”, she said still smiling. Susan, middle aged, and from Colorado, told me in the winter she likes working in the Warming House a pleasant respite for cross country skiers and revelers on snow mobiles. Matt, from Johnson City, Tennessee became an instant friend when I told him I graduated from the University of Tennessee. As I quizzed her the buss girl “Jelly” confided that her real name was “Ging” but Americans called her “Gink” so she adopted the simpler term Jelly. We discussed her native China. “They make us go back. You can only get a summer work visa if you are not a student”
