Through the Forest

I had to drive 120 miles West of Spokane to get to my walking starting point in the middle of the Okanogan National Forest just west of the city of the same name. The early climbs, despite the brisk air, are difficult. The drizzle does not help. I am grateful when I reach Loop Loop Pass at a height of 4020 feet and then Okanogan.

At 5 PM I am reluctant but fight my way up a steep hill outside of Omak. At the summit I begin thinking of rib eye steak which will be my treat after completing my first full day of walking as I continue Stage 7.
{Technical Note: this day was successful in part due to a 5:30 AM good breakfast which included scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, an English muffin and three cups of freshly brewed coffee]
