Pahaska Tepee
Buffalo Bill knowing that one day the east gate would be a popular entrance to Yellowstone founded the Pahaska Tepee as an outpost where travelers could rest for the nigh on the journeys through the park. “Bears roam freely here. If you get up early in the morning make sure you take a good look around before you step outside”, the manager counseled me. “Same thing if you come back to the cabin at night. Take a good look around” It didn’t end there, “At night if you are walking back to the cabin make real sure any food you have is covered.” Naturally, I slept with bear spray under my pillow aware that the flimsy screen covering the window couldn’t even hold back a squirrel.
